Peaceful Restaurant

Peaceful has been one of my favourite Chinese food joints in the city. It gained a lot of notoriety since Guy Fieri’s visit back in 2012. Since then, they have expanded to 7 locations in the Lower Mainland.

I’m not going to lie, the quality does fluctuate between locations however, it still worth visiting. Given my proximity to their Kingsway restaurant (less then 3 minute drive, if anyone is asking), I usually order take-out from here every few months. This was that time! I think everyone else had the same idea, so the pick-up line up was full of food drivers and our order was held up by 15 minutes.

We chose the usual suspects: beef rolls, chili noodles and cumin lamb. The beef rolls were bomb as usual, very sweet and tangy with a good layer of sliced beef inside. They really know what they’re doing with this dish. It was perfectly chewy but also still moist.

I always have to get the sizzled chili noodles – I usually get the flat, thin, blade-sheared noodles but forgot to specify this in my hungry fury of ordering. I ended up with the regular noodles they offer in this order: hand-dragged, which are actually their well-known famous ones. This dish still didn’t disappoint even with my ordering hiccup. I really enjoyed the very vinegar-forward flavour along with the heat from the chilis. It’s just a perfect dish for some one who loves hot sauces. The lamb was so delicious and the portion was very generous. The lamb was sliced thinly and didn’t have a gamey taste to it at all. At one point, we were trying to figure out if it was beef – but it did have a mild lamb flavour. Northern dishes are known for their use of cumin, which this dish definitely had.

Overall, I always love getting take-out from Peaceful and I know what to expect, and I usually order the same dishes if I’m just eating alone or with my partner. I’ve had many of their other dishes and everything is always good. I would definitely give them a try, you might get held up in line or for table but it’s worth it.
