Bold statement alert! The chicken burger from The Frying Pan is the best in the city, and my favourite. I’m heavily biased but this is my blog and my review so I get to be. Let me spend the rest of this review backing this up.
I first found The Frying Pan by fluke at the New West “Columbia StrEAT Food Truck Fest” a year ago, sadly there is no food truck fest this year due to Covid but The Frying Pan truck is always posted up around the lower mainland so I (and you) can get the fix. I check their Instagram periodically to see where they are; you can also use this Street Food App for their status. So this Saturday, I tracked them down to the Trout Lake farmers’ market, got there 15 minutes before closing, and lined up patiently for a burger and some fries.
I ordered the hot and sweet iteration, which is my favourite from them. It’s the best of both words: some sweetness from the honey-garlic sauce and some heat from the jalapenos, mixed with the creamy mayo to cut through both sides. I’m salivating as I write this, remembering my weekend burger experience…
The fries are also pretty damn amazing – think Costco fries with the nice cornstarch crunchy coating mixed with McDonald’s skinniness. Every fry is crunchy and well-cooked.
It was a hot day this weekend so I added a blue lemonade, which was a refreshing treat on top of the fries and burger. Apparently it’s also organic so that’s very Vancouver for us.
I honestly don’t have much more to say about this joint. As Cardi B would say, “guap quap, get some chicken, guap guap, get some bread” – just look at the photos, got get a burger and form your own conclusions. Chances are they will be just like mine – this place is unrivaled as it stands for chicken burgers.
